If touch is not working in an embedded system, test touch interaction with a separate computer (laptop or desktop). If touch works with a separate computer, this verifies the touch sensor is working, meaning there is an issue with its connection to the embedded system.
If there is an issue with the connection to the embedded system, shut down the interactive display and disconnect the main power cable for 30 seconds. Reconnect power and test touch interaction again.
If touch is not working with a connected computer, first verify that it is properly connected and supports touch interaction. If the specific model of interactive display requires a driver for the computer, ensure it is properly installed.
If it is properly connected, and the interactive display contains an embedded system, test touch interaction with the embedded system. If it works with the embedded system, this verifies the touch sensor is working, meaning there is an issue with its connection to the computer.
If it is properly connected, and there is no embedded system, test touch interaction with a different computer. If it works with a different computer, this verifies the touch sensor is working, meaning there is an issue with its connection to the first computer.
If there is an issue with the connection to a computer, disconnect and reconnect the Touch USB cable. Reboot the computer. Test a different USB cable of the same type. If the USB cable is long or using an extension, test a short (6ft) cable.
For interactive displays which do not require a driver in Windows, open the Control Panel. Change "View by:" to Small/Large Icons. Locate and open Device Manager, then expand "Human Interface Devices." If Windows detects a touch screen, it should show a device called "HID-compliant touch screen."
In the Control Panel, locate and open Tablet PC Settings. Tablet PC Settings will only be present if a touch screen is detected. The Setup option will allow Windows to associate the touch input with the monitor. The Calibrate option will allow Windows to properly map the touch input across the monitor.
If a driver is required for touch interaction, it may have its own settings application for these functions.
